Hardware Design

We intent to implement hardware components in order to automate the hydroponic system.

·         Power supply: Initially we supply direct current to the system. In a case of a power failure, we suppose to get the current from a battery.

·         Micro-controller: First, get values from the sensors and read them from the micro-controller. Then it passes those values to the AI model for analyzing. Analyzed data will again pass to the micro-controller for controlling processes.

1)      pH level base pump: Controlling pH level by releasing dil.Alkalin or dil.HCL.

2)      Nutrition distributor: Release NPK according to the shortage.

3)      Drain/Fill reservoir: When the water level is going down in the main tank, it should refill from the water tank.

If the temperature is higher than the standard temperature, water spraying valve should open and spray water to the plants.

·         Mobile Phone: Real time sensor readings will send to the mobile app via Internet connection.

            Here is the model structure of the hydroponic farming system that we are going to build up.it is showing how to install all the resources inside a farming area of a hydroponic system.

According to our system there are separated N, P, K, dil. HCL and dil. alkaline tanks. They release N, P, K and HCL /alkaline automatically to the main tank when needed.

There are two water supplies from the pure water tank one is for the water sprays and the other one is for main tank which is providing water for growing pipes. Water level sensor is measure water level of main tank.

There is a heat sensor to measure the temperature of the farming area.as well as here in our system there is a power supply unit which is supplying direct current to the system. In addition to that there is a battery also, which can be used for power failures…

Introduction

     Agriculture is a major source and a major contributor to the Sri Lankan economy.  In traditional farming soil is considered as a valuable component and the day-to-day monitoring by the farmer is essential. With the technological development, people were motivated to be employed in other sectors rather than engaging in farming. So, they have moved to urban areas from the country side and live in small spaces like 5-6 perches, flats or apartments having a busy lifestyle to make money for a better living. Even though people have a plantation interest, they are lacking enough space and time to take care of a bunch of plants. 

        


    To address these issues we are working on a project of automating a Hydroponic system with use of latest technologies. And also an mobile application to monitor the farm everyday instead of visiting the farm. We are hoping to develop an detector for NPK, which is very expensive in current market. All these solutions together will result a full automated Hydroponic system with minimal man-power.
